2012 Saucelito Canyon “Estate”
100% Zinfandel
Arroyo Grande Valley, California

The Zinfandel Estate is the wine that started it all—our cornerstone bottling that dates back to the winery’s inaugural vintage of 1982, when Bill Greenough turned heads with his first old-vine Zinfandel. This wine consistently exhibits the natural balance, pure fruit character and gravelly terroir for which our Zinfandel is renowned. Enjoy this wine with T-bone steak with peppered shoestring fries and smoked mozzarella and chipotle pizza.

Unique Wines for Everyday Life selections for September 2014

Mexico
2012 L.A. Cetto “Estate”
100% Petite Sirah
Valle de Guadelupe, Baja California

Most of the wines we have tried from Mexico have been on the pricy side and those that were more affordable were just plain nasty….until we tried L.A. Cetto. All of their selections were delicious and very well priced. We decided to include their Petite Sirah in this month’s selections. Petite Sirah is widely produced in California, where it is used to add structure to Zinfandel, but in western Mexico it has developed a reputation as a stand-alone variety. L.A. Cetto are particularly adept with Petite Sirah, crafting deeply coloured wines that are loaded with notes of black pepper and tea. This is great with spicy black bean dishes or grilled steaks.

Regular Price $11.99 - Wine Club $10.79

Portugal
2011 terra de Touros
50% Touriga Nacional, 50% Pinot Noir
Vinho Regional Tejo, Portugal

Never blindly choose a red wine again. Terra de Touros is Pinot Noir and thenoble Portugese grape, Touriga Nacional blended seamlessly, creating a smooth red wine with bright red fruits and soft tannins.

Food Pairings: Pizza, Red Sauce, Burgers and Grilled Pork

"Sweet red berry fruits come through the firmer tannins. An unusual blend of Pinot Noir and Touriga Nacional, it has plenty of acidity, delicious juiciness and touches of wood at the end. It’s not for long-term aging, ready to drink now." - Wine Enthusiast Best Buy.

Regular Price $12.99 - Wine Club $11.69

California
2012 Painted Wolf “the den”
100% Pinotage
Paarl, South Africa

Mother We are not huge fans of Pinotage (a hybrid of Pinot Noir and Cinsault…why?) but we are always on the looout for unusual varietals and this is actually pretty tasty. It’s an intense fruit packed wine with a smorgasbord of red and black summer berries, savoury spice and toasty wood flavors. The wine has fine bright tannins. It has a long fresh finish.

Pinotage is the best possible red wine in the world to pair with Mexican dishes such as Fajitas or that glorious confection of chicken, chocolate, cumin seeds, smoky ancho chilli, pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds which is called Mole. It is also very good with other flavoursome American regional specialties such as with Carolina Pulled Pork and smoky
Texas B.B.Q beef rib.

Regular Price $14.99 - Wine Club $13.49

Central Coast Club selections for September 2014

Santa Barbara County
2013 Byron Winery
100% Chardonnay
Santa Barbara County, California

The 2013 vintage included a very cool winter and spring. These conditions led to being fruitful with small clusters and small berries with flavors of stone fruit, fig, honey; hints of brown spice and mineral. The palate is both crisp and concentrated with a mineral finish.

"Crisp, with aromas and flavors of ripe peaches, cinnamon and minerals."
Highly Recommended - Fred Tasker Miami Herald.

Regular Price $17.99 - Wine Club $16.19

Santa Barbara County

2013 Byron Winery
100% Pinot Noir
Santa Barbara County, California

The 2013 vintage included a very cool winter and spring. These conditions led to being fruitful with small clusters and small berries with flavors of dark berry, cherry, hints of floral and mineral. This is a forward approachable wine that displays the beautiful floral/mineral character typical of Santa Barbara Pinot Noir.

"Byron's basic 2013 Santa Barbara is that rare bird: delicious, affordable California pinot noir. Sourced from three vineyards in Santa Maria Valley, two near Los Alamos and one in the Santa Rita Hills, it's frisky and approachable, lasting on fresh red-fruit-skin flavor and fine tannins, light on its feet, with a hard-to-resist juiciness reminiscent of cru Beaujolais. Buy a case and watch it disappear." - 91 POINTS Wine and Spirits Magazine.
